Submissions to the Journal
The Canadian Journal of Family Law is a refereed journal published two times per year. The Journal invites the submission of original articles, commentaries, and book reviews pertaining to all aspects of family law from members of the legal, social science, psychological, medical, political science, and other disciplines. All submissions are reviewed by qualified external readers.
General Submissions Guidelines
Manuscripts intended for publication should be typewritten, double spaced, either in English or in French. The Journal would prefer submissions by e-mail using Word for Windows format. Quotations should be distinguished from the text by single spacing. Manuscripts should include footnotes rather than endnotes and follow the McGill Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation, 10th Edition. Articles, ideally, should not exceed forty typewritten pages – 8,000 to 10,000 words. If the article is a long one or contains complex material, the use of subheadings to break up the text is encouraged.
Since we use a double-blind peer review process, if there are aspects of your article that would reveal or suggest your identity to a peer reviewer (e.g. first-person references to your previous work), we would appreciate you preparing a version with the identifying details removed or rephrased.
Contributors are asked to provide a “cover page” to the manuscript with the title of the article, the author’s name, a brief statement of qualifications, any acknowledgements or credits and a one paragraph summary or abstract of the article.
Unless the Editorial Board specifically permits otherwise, only original, previously unpublished manuscripts will be accepted. Articles previously published on SSRN may not be considered. As we are a smaller operation, we ask that authors do not simultaneously submit their papers elsewhere. The Editorial Board reserves the right to alter grammatical construction, punctuation and citations to conform with the general style of the Journal and with the accepted rules of grammar.
